Tiburcio Benegas, a banker from the province of Mendoza, decided to abandon his career and devote himself to wine production. In 1883 he purchased a property called Trapiche, where he applied viticultural techniques he had learned in France. Visionary and entrepreneur, he became one of the key drivers of high‑quality wine production in the region. In the early 20th century, his son Pedro took over the leadership of Trapiche and cemented its reputation for quality through a remarkable body of work carried out over five decades. The knowledge he gained on a long journey through Europe’s wine country led to the creation of benchmark wines ranked among the best in Argentina. The vineyards cover more than 1,000 hectares and are located at elevations between 750 and 1,100 meters above sea level. (illustrative image only)
