The Carcavelos Villa Oeiras Superior was aged in Portuguese and French oak barrels for an average of 15 years. On the nose it offers aromas of dried fruit, spices, tobacco and toffee. Medium‑sweet and intensely expressive, it delivers a rich palate with elegant acidity balanced by sweetness and a persistent finish. Ideal as an aperitif or digestif, it pairs beautifully with dry or semi‑aged cheeses, pâtés and convent sweets. The Carcavelos demarcated region, established in 1908, lies just north of the Tagus mouth, in the parishes of São Domingos de Rana and Carcavelos in Cascais and part of Oeiras. The fame of Carcavelos wines faded over time. The Marquês de Pombal, who produced them at his Oeiras estate, prized them so highly that in 1752 he presented them to the court of Beijing. Wine production was for centuries the most important economic activity in the parish of Carcavelos, and its name, quality and typicity were formally recognised by the Carta de Lei in 1908.
