The Vira Cabeças red wine originates from a field lot sourced from six old vineyards, blending roughly twelve different grape varieties for an authentic expression of terroir. The grapes were hand‑picked between 1 and 6 September and naturally fermented in a concrete vat, with part of the batch previously crushed and destemmed. A prolonged maceration of about a month followed, then 18 months of ageing in a new 1,500‑litre Slovenian oak barrel. Bottled on 23 April 2024 without fining, it preserves its full identity. It offers a deep, distinctive profile with the typical complexity of old vines, firm structure, balanced freshness, and aromatic layers that gradually reveal fruit, mineral nuances, and elegant wood‑aged notes. João Afonso spearheaded this family project, aiming to unite Nature with Man again and reduce humanity’s pressure on ecosystems. The “Slow Wine” concept emerged to capture what nature best offers to wines while respecting its living evolution. These are wines to be savoured with time, giving them time.
