Quinta Da Pellada

About this producer

Quinta da Pellada is a family-owned wine estate with a long history, located in Pinhanços, in the Serra da Estrela sub-region of Dão. Wine production on the property dates back to 1527, and the Castro family has maintained the tradition for several generations. The project is led by Álvaro de Castro and his daughter, Maria Castro. Main Characteristics Location and terroir: The estate is situated at an altitude of 450 to 600 meters on granite-based soils at the foot of the Serra da Estrela. This unique terroir gives a special identity to the wines, which are notable for their freshness and elegance. Production philosophy: Quinta da Pellada focuses on natural wines, with great respect for nature, so that the particularity of each vineyard plot is reflected in the wine. Wines: The estate's range of wines is extensive, including red, white, and rosé wines. Some highlights are: Quinta da Pellada: Wines produced on the estate itself. Quinta de Saes: Another brand from the family, with wines from Dão. Grape Varieties: Although Dão is a region of blends, Quinta da Pellada uses the main grape varieties of the region, both white and red. History: Old records show that the estate was already paying taxes with wine in the 16th century. The production of bottled wines under its own brand began with Álvaro de Castro, who launched Quinta de Saes in 1989 and Quinta da Pellada in 1992.
