Maturana Blanca

About this grape variety

One of the oldest white grapes of Rioja, documented since the 17th century and all but lost before its recovery and authorisation in DOCa Rioja in 2007. Maturana Blanca is prized for very high natural acidity and low yields, giving fresh, structured whites with green apple, citrus, fennel and herbal notes and a genuine capacity to age. Juan Carlos Sancha pioneered its varietal revival in Rioja Alta, and it is the grape behind his Ad Libitum bottling. Genetically distinct from other Iberian whites despite the shared Maturana name.
