Sercial

About this grape variety

The driest of Madeira's four classic noble varieties, Sercial produces fortifieds of bracing acidity, citrussy-mineral aromatics and a steely-dry profile. The grape ripens late, requires planting at altitude on the coolest sites and produces wines of remarkable ageing potential — Sercial Madeiras a century old remain electrifying. Same grape as Esgana Cão on the Portuguese mainland. The dry style is often served as an aperitif.
