This Adega de Borba Garrafeira is clearly a wine with ambitions. After a patient 30 months in bottle, plus 12 in oak, it’s a seriously complex wine. Predominantly made with Trincadeira and Aragonez, alongside a touch of Alicante Bouschet, it bursts with dark fruit – think intensely ripe blackberries – layered with cocoa notes and a hint of toasted nuts, as if it’s spent some time maturing in a well-worn wooden chest. Full-bodied with wonderfully smooth tannins, it retains a persistent wild berry freshness, culminating in a long, memorable finish. Perfect with a good Iberian ham, naturally.
