Based on an idea from Rolf Niepoort, Dirk – his son – first reached out to Álvaro Castro in 2000 to create Dado. The goal was to craft the ideal wine, fusing the elegance and longevity of the Dão with the concentration and structure of the Douro. It presents a rich ruby colour, a complex bouquet with floral and red‑fruit notes typical of Touriga Nacional, plus spiced and mineral nuances. On the palate it envelops with lively acidity, soft yet present tannins, finely nuanced fruit and an impressive structure, finishing long and persistently – a wine with great aging potential.
