One of the most prestigious estates in the Douro is Quinta do Vallado, once owned by D. Antónia Adelaide Ferreira—known as “the Ferreirinha”—and still in the hands of her descendants today. Vallado wines were unjustly forgotten for a time, but have now naturally reclaimed their lost glory. They hold a pivotal place in the history of the Douro and deserve to sit among the region’s best. Founded in 1716, Quinta do Vallado is one of the oldest estates in the valley. It is situated near Régua on the banks of the Corgo River. The future of this emblematic estate rests with João Alves Ribeiro and Francisco Ferreira, both Ferreirinha descendants, who oversee the company’s management and enology, respectively.
