Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, founded in 1922 as João Pires & Filhos, has come a long way, establishing itself as one of Portugal’s most innovative wine producers. The company began by crafting wines from grapes grown in the Palmela region. Throughout the 1980s, Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal expanded, acquiring estates across the country and setting new standards for quality wine production. The Quinta da Terrugem estate, located in the Alentejo region within the civil parish that gives it its name, in the municipality of Elvas, was purchased in 1991. It spans roughly 60 hectares of vineyards planted with Aragonês, Tinta Roriz, Trincadeira, Castelão, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Alicante Bouschet varieties.
