The Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, founded in 1922 under the name João Pires & Filhos, has carved a long path, establishing itself as one of the most innovative wine producers in Portugal. The company’s activity began with producing wines from grapes grown in the Palmela region. Throughout the 1980s, Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal expanded, acquiring estates across the national territory and setting new standards for Quality wine production. Regarded as the finest estate of the early fifteenth century still in existence in Portugal, Quinta da Bacalhôa is an ancient property of the Portuguese Royal Household. Located in Azeitão, the Quinta and the famous Palácio da Bacalhôa form an artistic monument of great importance to the country. Today, Quinta da Bacalhôa belongs to the Berardo Foundation, run by the family of the same name, whose patriarch is Comendador José Berardo. On 23 June 1910 it was classified as a National Monument. In the surrounding area of Quinta da Bacalhôa, visitors find picturesque villages, wine cellars, and one of Portugal’s most beautiful and imposing landscapes – the Arrábida Natural Park.
