Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal, founded in 1922 under the name João Pires & Filhos, has charted a long course, establishing itself as one of Portugal’s most innovative wine producers. The company began by crafting wines from grapes grown in the Palmela region. Throughout the 1980s, Bacalhôa Vinhos de Portugal expanded, acquiring estates across the country and setting new standards for quality wine production. Considered the most beautiful estate from the first half of the 15th century still existing in Portugal, the Quinta da Bacalhôa is an old property of the Portuguese Royal House. Located in Azeitão, the estate and the famed Palácio da Bacalhôa form an artistic monument of great national significance. Today the Quinta belongs to the Berardo Foundation, part of the family bearing the same name, whose patriarch is Commander José Berardo. On 23 June 1910 it was classified as a National Monument. In the surrounding area, visitors find picturesque villages, cellars, and one of Portugal’s most beautiful and imposing landscapes – the Arrábida Natural Park. (Illustrative image)
