This wine acquires its unique character through a hot fermentation followed by a three‑year ageing in oak barrels before bottling. It’s excellent as a digestif. Though bottled ready to drink, it stays in good condition for several months after opening. Few producers—especially in Madeira wine—have experienced such a dramatic turnaround as Barbeito did. Transitioning from bulk wine supplier to a regional benchmark happened in 1991 when Ricardo Freitas joined the family business and, together with the Japanese Kinoshita, turned Barbeito into one of Madeira’s leading wine producers. The bottling year may not match the illustration shown. (Illustrative image)
