Description

Barroca da Malhada Dolia branco is made from Fernão Pires and Bical grapes, harvested by hand and fermented spontaneously with minimal cellar intervention. The wine undergoes whole‑maceration in clay amphorae for a month, followed by an eight‑month period of liquid ageing, with fermentation at low temperatures. It displays a lemon‑yellow hue. The bouquet reveals great richness and complexity, with several well‑defined layers: the primary fruit shines at the front, complemented by a subtle toasted note and a toasty expression from the amphora, all in perfect harmony. On the palate it stands out for its vibrant acidity, structure and depth, with flavours that are well aligned, giving it a distinctly gastronomic and unique profile. Barroca da Malhada is an artisanal wine producer from Beira Interior, originating from a historic estate that dates back to the Middle Ages and once belonged to the Viscounts of Tinalhas. With about five hectares of vines grown organically and following biodynamic practices, they work on granite‑origin chalk‑sand soils in one of the most mountainous regions of Portugal. The wines reflect a low‑intervention approach, prioritising authenticity, freshness and the expression of place.
