This Bastardo, hailing from the Tejo, clearly enjoyed a rather boisterous youth. Initially bursting with ripe red fruits – think plump raspberries and jammy sweetness – it announces itself with gusto. A prominent character and a lovely roundness encourage you to linger. Crafted with vines dating back centuries and utilising marble lagares, it’s a testament to a deep respect for the terroir. The brief barrel ageing, with just one racking, adds a touch of elegance, perfectly complementing a slow-roasted lamb – a match that really lets the wine’s richness shine.
