Herdade do Peso Reserva is a wine of great quality, complex and elegant, that embodies all the grandeur and vivacity of Alentejo wines. Herdade do Peso revitalises the deepest essence of Alentejo, revealed through the science and know‑how of Sogrape Vinhos, and emerges in a range of sophisticated wines whose flavours, aromas and colours evoke life at its best – just as the region from which they come. The 2019 vintage in Vidigueira was marked by a generally hot spring and early summer, yet there were cool nights and humid mornings. Summer featured high temperature swings: hot days and cool, somewhat humid mornings – a decisive factor for the grapes’ freshness and quality. Some rainfall in late August did not affect the ripening. Combining tradition and innovation, we selected fruit from the best plots. We craft with noble materials and let time work its magic. The artisans, true artists in the use of the natural ingredients that nature gives us, create a wine that reflects this philosophy. The grapes come from T.28 Alicante Bouschet and T.94 Touriga Nacional, sourced from the finest Syrah parcels, each warranting distinct care. Intervention during the vegetative cycle was carried out to optimize the leaf surface. After complete destemming, the berries are hand‑picked before crushing. Before fermentation – carried out in conical stainless‑steel tanks at a controlled 28 °C – a maceration is performed at 10 °C for three days. After malolactic fermentation, the wine ages, separated by grape variety, in 3,000‑liter French oak barrels and casks for 12 months. The final blend is composed only of the finest woods, followed by bottle aging at a controlled temperature of 15 °C.
