This Borges Douro Grande Reserva has clearly gone for a rather audacious over-ripening, with plum and blackberry notes so intense it’s almost like eating the fruit itself. Abundant cravinho and green peppercorn add a distinct personality, but with enough elegance to prevent it from becoming tiresome. On the palate, it’s a substantial and well-structured wine with remarkably smooth tannins – ideal for pairing with a hearty roasted meat, perhaps with bacon and mushrooms. A wine deserving of appreciation, and as the experts noted, it achieved a well-deserved 18 points!
