This Buçaco Reserve from Bairrada is a rosé that certainly doesn’t pull any punches. Alexandre Almeida, collaborating with Dirk Niepoort, has brilliantly bottled a youthful, almost bracing intensity, showcasing fresh floral notes alongside a subtle hint of pink rubber – an unusual combination, I’ll admit, but one that adds a fascinating layer of complexity. The acidity is, predictably, quite vibrant, and the finish is wonderfully lively, making it perfect alongside grilled fish or smoked salmon. A wine with real potential to evolve, and one that, with a bit of luck, might just surprise you yet.
