This Crasto Reserva seems to have started life with a touch of bewilderment – grapes transported in plastic crates and assessed on a sorting table. The carefully controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks paved the way for a 16-month ageing, blending the elegance of French oak (85%) with the rustic influence of American oak (15%). The result is a Douro wine promising complexity, marrying the traditions of old vines with a contemporary approach to barrel maturation. Seriously, this full-bodied “Caixinha” would be fantastic with a good grilled beef rib – a truly delightful pairing!
