This Calem Vintage seems to have matured a touch ahead of itself – the nose is initially quite reserved, but quickly bursts forth with a glorious explosion of ripe black plum compote, alongside hints of dark chocolate and a whisper of spice, adding a distinctly sophisticated layer. On the palate, it’s a powerhouse, showcasing the elegance of both the Sousão and Touriga Nacional, though thankfully mellowed by a subtle sweetness. A wine destined for cellaring, particularly delightful with grilled beef, and, as Robert Parker notes, delivers a long, intense finish – well worth the patient wait.
