“The Carm CM is clearly aiming for the ‘classic age-worthy’ title. Production is meticulously controlled, starting with a gentle crush designed to retain the grape’s true character, followed by cold soaks that, frankly, seem determined to coax every last drop of ripe fruit. The slow fermentation in temperature-controlled vessels, alongside a mix of steel and oak, suggests a focus on building complexity. On the palate, this wine delivers a wonderfully structured experience, boasting “top-tier” tannins – always a welcome declaration – and a remarkable length. It’s a wine that’s certainly planning on keeping company for quite some time. Grown on the Roboredo estate in Almendra, with a clear respect for the land, the Carm CM presents aromas of wildflowers, wild berries, and, of course, that signature Douro note of shale and schist. Absolutely begging for a hearty roast or perhaps a rich, slow-cooked shoulder.”
