Quinta Do Noval Tinto

Description

The Quinta do Noval red 2014 was produced with 80 % Touriga Nacional and 20 % Touriga Franca, and it spent the entire 12 months maturing in French oak barrels. It shows a very deep, almost opaque colour, and an intense aroma of red fruit, raspberries, and spices. On the palate it has prominent tannins and reveals mineral notes, well integrated with the wood, plus hints of dark chocolate. The estate is distinguished by the beauty of its terraces, its house, warehouse, and traditional wine presses, which remain in use today. First referenced in 1715, Quinta do Noval was acquired in 1894 by António José da Silva, who developed it over the following three decades. Its descendants (more recently, the van Zeller family) kept the estate until 1993, when it was bought by AXA. In 1997, Quinta do Noval became a pioneer by centralising all its activities in the Douro Valley rather than in Vila Nova de Gaia. In its vineyards and presses the Quinta do Noval Nacional 1963 was produced, chosen as one of the 12 best wines of the 20th century by the American publication Wine Spectator.
