This Casa de Santar Reserva, bottled in a generous Magnum, is a wonderfully intense statement from the Dão. Expect powerful aromas of wild berries – raspberry, blackberry, perhaps a hint of blueberry – interwoven with spice notes that add a lovely layer of complexity. The mouthfeel is impressively structured, yet the extended maceration with the French oak (nine months, no less!) delivers a supremely smooth, velvety finish, practically begging for a perfectly grilled beef dinner and a robust, aged cheese.
