Casa Ferreirinha Callabriga is an intense and elegant wine, designed to reflect the versatility and thrilling relevance of Douro wines. Callabriga is one of Casa Ferreirinha’s most innovative wines, a brand with great tradition and one of the world’s leading references for high-quality Douro wines. The grapes, selected from the plots at Quinta da Leda in Almendra – Superior Douro, and neighbouring vines with a more balanced ripening, are hand‑picked and vinified in the estate’s cellar. After disgorging and gentle crushing, the grapes are sent to stainless steel vats where the alcoholic fermentation takes place. During this phase, gentle macerations at controlled temperatures are performed to extract the compounds that contribute to the wine’s colour, aroma, and flavour. Maturation occurs in used French oak barrels (75 %) and new American oak barrels (25 %) for about 12 months. The final batch is assembled from the selections made during the numerous tastings and analyses carried out during this period. To preserve the highest quality, the wine is only filtered before bottling. Ready to drink, it benefits from a bottle ageing of 3 to 5 years, yet remains at its best for many years. As sediment naturally forms in the bottle, after the second year from bottling, the wine is recommended to be decanted before consumption. It is ideal with meat dishes such as roasted goat or grilled mature steak, and can also pair well with game meats or oily fish baked in the oven. Awards 17.5/20 *Revista de Vinhos* (2020)
