Description

Castello D’Alba Origin: In this wine we seek the aromatic concentration and high acidity of grapes from the traditional high-altitude vineyards of the Upper Douro, at the transition from sandy to granite soils, which showcase the full character of the native Duriens castas, yielding very mineral and creamy wines. Vinification: Hand-harvested into small perforated 15‑kg barrels, whole bunches are left unthinned, using very gentle crushing and pressing to preserve all aromatic potential of the grapes. Great care is taken to perform all pre‑fermentative operations with utmost rigor, so as to interfere as little as possible with the intrinsic quality of the grapes. Fermentation uses indigenous yeasts; 20% of the must ferments and matures in used French oak barrels with fine lees stirring—‘batonnage’—for four months, while the remaining 80% ages in stainless‑steel tanks. Stage: Fermentation and maturation in French and American wood, with lees stirring for six months until bottling.
