This São João, aged 98 years, doesn’t shout about its pedigree – the straw-gold colour hints at a remarkably patient story. The nose is wonderfully complex, bordering on the fantastical: you get notes of phosphorus, warming spices, and a dry, herbaceous character, all enveloped in a comforting layer of dried fruit and floral tones – a true classic of the Bairrada. The wine delivers a powerful, fresh attack, demanding attention, but the elegance and lasting finish ensure a truly unforgettable experience. Wonderful with grilled white fish or a good Manchego cheese, if you will.
