Description

Château Léoville Barton The vineyard lies in the heart of the Saint-Julien terroir, on one of the most beautiful gravel rises of Garonne origin, overlooking the Gironde estuary. The clay-gravel subsoil plays a fundamental role in regulating climatic variations throughout the year, favouring a balanced ripening of the grapes. The soil is worked using traditional methods, without the use of herbicides or chemical weed control products. The estate is planted predominantly with 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc. Vinification The grapes are hand-harvested in their entirety. After destemming, the berries are carefully selected, lightly crushed and gravity-fed into temperature-controlled wooden vats, where they are vinified separately according to their plot of origin. Alcoholic fermentation takes place over 7 to 10 days, with extraction carefully managed by adjusting the number of pump-overs according to each lot and vintage. Maceration lasts for about three weeks, followed by racking into barrels, lot by lot. The wine is aged for 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels, 60% of which are new, in a cellar maintained at a constant temperature of around 15 °C. Blend: 87% Cabernet Sauvignon 10% Merlot 3% Cabernet Franc Manual harvest: 12 September to 2 October Ageing: 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels, with 60% new wood.
