Château Pontet-Canet Pauillac Tinto

Jean‑François de Pontet was appointed at the court of Versailles, where he served as Grand Equitator (Master of the Horse) to Louis XV. Upon returning to Guyenne, he became Governor of the Médoc. In 1705 he bought a few hectares of land north of the village of Pauillac, planted vines there, and gave the estate his own name to establish a recognized identity. A century later, Château Pontet‑Canet was flourishing and became one of the few selected to join the famed 1855 classification, which had been ordered by Napoleon III. Today the estate is owned by the descendants of Guy Tesseron: Alfred and his nieces Mélanie and Philippine. Together they envisioned a new era for Château Pontet‑Canet, where viticulture embraces organic and biodynamic practices, and the wines have evolved so much that they are now among Bordeaux’s most prestigious. Made from 64 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 31 % Merlot, 4 % Cabernet Franc and 1 % Petit Verdot, the 2017 Pontet‑Canet presents a deep garnet, purple hue, revealing perfumed notes of rose tea, lilac, cinnamon stick, cardamom, dry leaves with warm plums and red currants. The palate is refreshing, mineral and elegant, with a balanced texture of velvety tannins. (illustrative image only)
