This Churchills 10 Year Tawny is a delightfully perplexing wine, much like the Douro Valley itself. The colour – a rich brick red with amber highlights – speaks volumes about its extended ageing, while the nose offers a fascinating array of flavours, from ripe dried fruits to a bright orange peel note, undoubtedly thanks to the influence of Touriga Nacional. On the palate, it’s remarkably full-bodied, with a surprisingly fresh character for a 10-year-old Tawny, culminating in a persistent finish that begs for another sip. Wonderful with aged cheeses or dark chocolate desserts.
