This Cinco Forais Reserva has clearly spent some time maturing in French oak – it’s definitely toned down the initial wildness of the berries. You get lovely notes of rose and spice, hinting at a Provençal influence, but thankfully the Touriga Nacional provides a robust backbone, alongside the refreshing acidity of the Baga, ensuring the dark fruits – black plum and cassis – remain beautifully present. A well-deserved 17 points, perfect alongside a hearty pork dish with apple purée to cut through the richness.
