Description

The Avril family has been established in Châteauneuf-du-Pape since the 17th century. The first harvest of Clos des Papes was produced in 1896 under the initiative of the great‑grandfather of the current owner, Paul‑Vincent Avril. After helping create the Châteauneuf‑du‑Pape appellation in 1936, he passed the business to his son Régis Avril, who continued the work. Régis made Clos des Papes known abroad, where today 75 % of sales come from overseas. The vineyards cover a total of 32 hectares, 29 of which are planted with red varieties—Grenache, Syrah and Monastrell—and 3 hectares with white grapes, including Grenache Blanc. The meticulous care of these vines makes Clos des Papes one of the most acclaimed French wines in the world. (Illustrative image only)
