The wine of Colares is characterized by being unique in the world. The terroir, strongly influenced by the Atlantic, results in wines with extraordinary saltiness, as well as complex aromas that improve with bottle ageing. This house was founded in 1898 by António Bernardino da Silva Chitas in Azenhas do Mar. In the early years, its sales were mainly concentrated in the Lisbon region and on large-scale export to Brazil. It was followed by his son, also named António Bernardino da Silva Chitas Junior, and presently by his grandson António Bernardino Paulo da Silva. Today, its sales are not only focused on the domestic market but also largely export wines to various countries in Europe and the United States. (Illustrative image)
