94 pts, Robert Parker – A very deep purple‑black at the centre, edged by a narrow ribbon of purple‑red. While the nose showcases the seductive, opulent character of red fruit—an emblematic trait of Roêda Vintage Ports—there are also intense wild‑fruit aromas that add focus and delicacy. As usual, the fruit is wrapped in exotic balsamic, mentholated and eucalyptus notes. On the palate the first impression is a rich, velvety texture, yet it delivers excellent acidity and well‑integrated tannins that emerge in the finish. The finish is powerful and very long, with persistent, crisp red‑fruit flavours. As always, the 2018 Roêda Vintage is mature and seductive, but the vintage’s specific characteristics and the contribution from the oldest vineyards of Roêda have positioned this superb single‑Quinta Vintage Port at the elegant and restrained extreme of the spectrum.
