It displays a deep red color with violet reflections, aromas of ripe wild berries, hints of vanilla and spices, and a touch of compote. The tannins are firm and vibrant, and the finish is long and robust. The company Sociedade Agrícola de Pias, founded in 1973 by José Veiga Margaça, initially launched its first brand of wines sold in bulk and large bottles under the name “Margaça,” after its founder who interacted and mingled with the people of Pias and everyone involved with the company—clients, suppliers, and friends. The winery quickly became known as “A Adega do Margaça” because José Veiga Margaça had an unconventional dynamic and personality as a businessman, entrepreneur, and friend. With the launch of its second brand, “Encostas do Enxoé,” in 1988—a wine unanimously recognized for its enviable quality—it was one of his major achievements and marked the beginning of bottled wine sales. Over the years, new brands were created reflecting new wines of different categories and profiles, and new strategies were adopted. (illustrative image only)
