This “Fora da Caixa” from the Douro certainly packs a punch. That deep ruby colour practically demands you dive in, and the juicy blackberry and raspberry notes – largely thanks to the Tinto Cão – are undeniably intense. The oak, which seems to have a lovely chat with the Touriga Nacional, adds a subtle spice that’s beautifully complemented by a touch of toasted chocolate. A rich, structured wine, but with the gentle grace only the Alfrocheiro can provide; absolutely perfect with a perfectly grilled beef steak.
