Garrafeira Benfica’s red wine SLB 91 was crafted by winemaker Carlos Lucas, a Dão native who has always stayed rooted in the land. With more than 25 years of experience spanning Montpellier, Piemonte, Priorat and Vale de São Francisco, he was named “Winemaker of the Year” by Revista dos Vinhos in 2008. Lucas keeps his nose on the wines and his hands on the vines, producing quality wines with a team that values innovation and dynamism while never straying from tradition. The vines grow on granitic soils with prominent rocky outcrops at an altitude of roughly 400–600 m. The climate is shaped by the Dão and Mondego rivers, giving hot, dry summers and cold winters. Harvest is manual with total destemming. Fermentation occurs in stainless‑steel tanks with extended maceration and gentle remontages to extract colour and aromas.
