Description

Gianni Gagliardo A classic and deep Barolo, born from vines largely planted in La Morra, with plots in Barolo, Monforte and Serralunga d’Alba (the Barolo area, south of Piedmont). Made exclusively with Nebbiolo grapes, it displays great structure, elegance and excellent ageing potential. The 2006 vintage was marked by climatic contrasts and a meticulous harvest, ensuring healthy, high‑quality grapes. After vinification, the wines revealed very complex bouquets, adequate acidity and balanced alcohol level — characteristics in line with the best years. Each of the 16 Barolo plots was vinified separately. The grapes were harvested at optimal ripeness, destemmed and macerated for 10 to 15 days, with no added yeasts and no artificial temperature control. Fermentations followed their natural course. After alcoholic fermentation, the young wines were transferred to wood for malolactic fermentation and ageing. Weekly bâtonnage was carried out until spring. At that point, after blind tastings, the wines were blended to combine different qualities: - La Morra: aromas of early evolution - Barolo: balance - Monforte: depth - Serralunga: ageing potential and minerality The result is a wine with a complex bouquet, firm tannins and balanced acidity — a Barolo with character, depth and Piedmontese soul. Analytical parameters: Total acidity: 5.70 g/L | Dry extract: 29 g/L “Gianni Gagliardo's Barolo Serre is an impressively delicate wine, with layers of wild fruit, red rose, pressed violets, smoke and minerality. The mouthfeel is fresh, tannic, clean and highly persistent.” – Wine Enthusiast Awards 98/100 – Luca Gardini (2021 harvest) 5 Grappoli – Bibenda – Fondazione Italiana Sommelier (2021) Corona – Vini Buoni d’Italia – Touring Club Italiano (2021) 97/100 – JamesSuckling.com (2021) 97/100 – WinesCritic.com (2021) Allergen information Contains sulfites.
