Description

Castillo Ygay Castillo Ygay is produced exclusively from the finest grapes of La Plana, a 40-hectare plot planted in 1950, located at an altitude of 485 metres in the highest part of the Finca Ygay. This 300-hectare estate is home to the Marqués de Murrieta winery, situated in Rioja Alta. Manual Harvest: We carry out a selective manual harvest, using small-capacity crates to preserve the quality of the grapes. The Tempranillo was picked between 17 and 22 September, while the Mazuelo was harvested on 28 September 2011. Winemaking: The bunches are destemmed and, after passing through the sorting table, each variety ferments separately in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Maceration lasts between 10 and 12 days, during which frequent pumping over, pigeage and delestage are carried out to encourage contact between the must and the skins, promoting a slow and natural extraction of aromas and polyphenols. After fermentation, the grape solids are pressed in vertical presses, in a gentle and slow process that favours the extraction of colour and ripe tannins from the skins. Ageing: The Tempranillo is aged for 28 months in 225-litre American oak barrels, while the Mazuelo spends the same period in 225-litre French oak barrels. After the final blend is determined, the wine rests for 13 months in concrete tanks before bottling. "After an unforgettable 2010, Castillo Ygay once again expresses the marvellous potential of the La Plana plot." – María Vargas, Technical Director Awards 99/100 – Sobremesa 98/100 – Decanter 98/100 – Falstaff 98/100 – Guía ABC 98/100 – La Vanguardia 97/100 – Tim Atkin 97/100 – James Suckling 97/100 – Wine Enthusiast 97/100 – Proensa 97/100 – Robert Parker 95/100 – Vinous Media 94/100 – Wine Spectator Allergen Information Contains sulphites.
