The company was founded in 1926 by Messias Baptista, who ran it until 1973. Today, the administration of Caves Messias remains in the hands of the Messias family descendants. Since its inception, Messias has produced and marketed wines from the principal demarcated regions: Dão, Bairrada, Douro, Vinho Verde, Beiras, and Vinho do Porto.
