This Castelão certainly seems to have had a lively chat with its own grapes, resulting in a wine with plenty of body and fresh fruit. Twelve months ageing on wood – a touch generous, perhaps – haven’t overly complicated things, which is perfectly acceptable. It pairs beautifully with a hearty grilled eel salad or a seafood rice dish to tame its intensity.
