Herdade da Maroteira sits at the foot of Serra D’Ossa and spans 540 ha, owned by the same Anglo‑Portuguese family for five generations since the mid‑19th century. At that time, Robert Reynolds invested in the Alentejo sobro montado to meet the needs of the Port wine industry in northern Portugal, and for roughly 150 years the estate focused on cork and livestock. It wasn’t until 2000 that Philip Mollet, the current owner and manager, revolutionised the farm’s strategy and planted vines. Since then, the estate has produced excellent Alentejo wines centred on its preferred variety, Syrah. The 15 ha of vines are planted on clay‑limestone soils, giving the wines the authentic character of Alentejo.
