This wine from Herdade das Servas is a real hug of an Alentejo – bold and rooted in those warm, schist-rich soils. Initially, the aromas burst with dark cherry and blackberry, underpinned by a subtle spice and floral character distinctly of the land. On the palate, it’s a powerfully structured wine with a full body and a lingering finish, practically begging for another glass. The chocolate and spice notes evolve beautifully thanks to a blend of French and American oak ageing – perfectly suited to grilled beef, or perhaps a decadent dark chocolate square.
