Herdade do Esporão The first harvest of Monte Velho dates back to 1991 and it first entered the market in 1992, then priced at a shelf cost of 200 escudos. Inspired by the flagship Esporão Reserva, Monte Velho revolutionised everyday wine consumption, bringing quality wine to the table at an affordable price. Thirty years later, the brand’s journey has been marked by significant evolution. In 2020, more than 50 countries bought 7 million 400 000 bottles of Monte Velho, and since 2013, this Alentejan regional wine has been produced entirely in integrated production mode. Monte Velho’s story is closely tied to the land that gives it its origin, making it a distinctly Alentejan wine through its diversity of grapes and profile. The wines result from the combination of nature and viticultural tradition, together with the experience and innovation that define Esporão. Vinification and ageing: mechanical harvest, followed by cooling of the grapes and pressing. Cold decanting, then fermentation in stainless‑steel tanks at controlled temperatures for 15 days. Winemakers: José Moreira da Silva and Beatriz Mateus. A wine to be enjoyed young, every day.
