This “Menino António” from Herdade Malhadinha is a delightful reminder that the Alentejo still holds a few secrets. It’s a concentrated red, surprising freshness coming from the Trigo Branco grapes, and a truly remarkable complexity arises from the Aragoneses and Trincas. The extended aging, rewarded with a gold medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards, has imparted a deliciously woody note. Seriously, a fantastic match with grilled beef, but adventurous palates might even find room for a nice white fish – don’t knock it till you’ve tried it!
