Horácio Simões This Moscatel was produced in the year the great‑great‑grandson of the founder was born. That same year in Portugal there was a revolution, so the wine was stored in 10‑ and 15‑litre glass carboys and a few brown paraffin barrels, ensuring it would remain hidden from view. Only ancestral winemaking processes were used. On the 95th anniversary of the founder’s son—a special family occasion—the wine was brought to the table and everyone was astonished by the Moscatel presented. Many conversations ensued, and in one of them the decision to launch it on the market was unanimous. Vinification: The Moscatel “Excellent” Single Cask results from intense work over more than 100 years shared between the vineyard and the cellar. The vines were tended and pampered for decades so that yields never exceeded 2500 L ha⁻¹. In the cellar a bespoke vinification was conceived for this product, distinct from the usual. The final stage is carried out in various wooden barrels where it will concentrate over decades. The Single Cask stems from the discovery of a barrel with “unique” characteristics. Winemaker: Luís Camacho Simões.
