This Horta Osório Achado is a wine that clearly takes its complexity seriously. The grapes, carefully transported in 18kg boxes – a touch obsessive, perhaps – possess a real stubbornness. The winemaking process, meticulously managed with pre-fermentation maceration and constant rackings and draining, truly unlocks the potential of the old vines and the Touriga Nacional. After 18 months in oak barrels and a further 12 in bottle, the result is a wine with beautifully refined tannins and a remarkable finesse; a truly deserving companion to a hearty wild boar roast.
