Although we might see Quinta do Crasto as a relatively new producer that began operations in the 1990s, the truth is that it is a winery with deep roots in the Douro. The earliest references to this estate date back to 1615. It was later incorporated into the first Feitoria, as evidenced by the surviving Pombaline stonework still on the property. Constantino de Almeida, the founder of the Constantino brand, recognized the extraordinary qualities of the estate and acquired it. After his death in 1923, his son Fernando de Almeida took the reins of the business, running Quinta do Crasto, from which grapes were sourced for the renowned Constantino Port wines. In 1981, his daughter Leonor Roquette and her husband Jorge Roquette acquired the majority stake in Quinta do Crasto and handed its management to their children. With Tomás and Miguel Roquette, Quinta do Crasto achieved a stature and status as an excellent producer—a standing it has maintained to the present day. The wines of Quinta do Crasto are now recognized worldwide and rank among the most precious and coveted Portuguese wines.
