The Vinha de São Lázaro gets its name from the fact that this vineyard contains a small 13th‑century hermitage dedicated to Saint Lazarus, protector of the sick and the most needy. This is a 1.5‑hectare parcel of Touriga Nacional, planted around the walls of Estremoz Castle, on a south‑facing slope with clay‑limestone soil.
