Júlio Bastos created this wine as a tribute to his father, Júlio Bandeira Bastos. It comes from the finest grapes harvested from old Alicante Bouschet vines, which were crushed in marble vats and vinified at controlled temperatures before maturing for 14 months in new French oak barrels. The wine shows an opaque, violet hue, with pure aromas of black ink, licorice, wild‑fruit notes, and balsamic undertones. On the palate it is broad, dense, and silky, with mature, rounded tannins. Located in Portugal’s Alentejo region, the Quinta de Dona Maria is renowned for its 18th‑century palace, a historical landmark that has also been linked to wine production for more than 150 years. In 1988, under the new owner Júlio Bastos, the wines from this estate began to be marketed nationally and internationally, earning recognition from both the general public and wine critics. Although the old winery has been restored, expanded, and modernized, the 19th‑century marble vats remain in use, continuing to play a pivotal role in the production of these quality wines.
