Very few producers, and especially in the production of Madeira wine, have experienced a revolution as profound as the one that occurred with Barbeito. Going from a bulk wine supplier to becoming a benchmark in the Madeira wine region is a remarkable achievement, given the strong competitors at the time. Everything began in 1991, when Ricardo Freitas joined the family business and, together with the Japanese Kinoshita, decided to transform Barbeito into one of the most important Madeira wine producers. That same year, another significant change took place: for the first time, wine production was entrusted to a family member. Two years after Ricardo joined the company, he harvested his first vintage without external oversight, setting the stage for a working team united under a single motto: to produce high‑quality wines with a distinctive style.
